Soorarai Pottru is a Tamil-language drama film written and directed by Sudha Kongara and produced by Suriya and Guneet Monga under their respective brands 2D Entertainment and Sikhya Entertainment for the year 2020. Kongara was the one who came up with the idea and wrote the story. Kongara and Shalini Ushadevi wrote the screenplay, with Aalif Surti and Ganesha composing a supplementary screenplay and Vijay Kumar providing the language.

Suriya, Paresh Rawal, and Aparna Balamurali star in the film, which also features Urvashi, Mohan Babu, and Karunas in smaller roles. The video was inspired in part by incidents from Simplify Deccan founder G. R. Gopinath’s memoir Simply Fly, A Deccan Adventure.

Whereas the project was first revealed in mid-2018 under the working title Suriya 38, it was officially named Soorarai Pottru on April 13, 2019. Principal photography began in almost the same month and ended in September of the same year. Madurai, Chennai, and Chandigarh were all used for filming. G. V. Prakash Kumar wrote the film’s music, while Niketh Bommireddy and Sathish Suriya handled cinematography and editing, correspondingly.

Due to post-production delays and the COVID 19 outbreak, the film’s theatrical rollout was hampered. On the eve of the Festive season, the film was released online through Amazon Prime Video on November 12, 2020. It was released concurrently in Malayalam, Kannada, and Telugu as Aakasam Nee Haddu Raa, with dubbed versions in Malayalam and Kannada. On April 4, 2021, a Hindi dubbed version titled Udaan was published.

Soorarai Pottru was hailed by critics, who commended the film’s primary technical components as well as the writing, Suriya’s acting, and Sudha’s direction. At the 78th Golden Globe Awards, it was chosen as one of 10 Indian films to be screened in the Best Foreign Film category.

The film was made available for viewing at the 93rd Academy Awards, although it did not receive any nominations. The film was also selected for the Shanghai International Film Festival’s Panorama Section. Former Indian Air Force commander Nedumaaran Rajangam, also known as Maara, aspires to launch a low-cost carrier airline. He looks up to Paresh Goswami, the owner of Jaz Airlines, who has made a name for himself in the aviation industry by working hard.

Suriya Sivakumar’s recent film, Soorarai Pottru, was released on Amazon Prime Video to rave reviews. The film’s team and the OTT platform’s celebrations, however, were marred on Wednesday night when the movie was leaked ahead of its official release by a piracy website.

Sudha Kongara’s action drama was set to premiere on Amazon Prime on November 12th. The streaming service, on the other hand, purportedly published the film two hours ahead of schedule, implying that it will be available by 10 p.m. on November 11.

Several internet users flocked to Twitter about 9 p.m. on Wednesday to report that the film had already been released. The movie had been pirated and was available on a piracy website by 9.30 p.m., thanks to Amazon Prime streaming it earlier in a few chosen regions. It also made its way around Telegram, a messaging service, where the full movie was shared.

Suriya’s fans and moviegoers were anxiously anticipating the release of the film, which was predicted to be a great hit for the actor following a string of box office disappointments. The film was originally slated to be released on October 21, 2020, but it had to be delayed due to a delay in receiving the Air Force’s No Objection Certificate.

Captain GR Gopinath, a retired Army captain who created Air Deccan, a low-cost airline, is the subject of Soorarai Pottru. GV Prakash created the soundtrack for the film, and Niketh Bommi shot the cinematography. It stars Aparna Balamurali as the female lead, as well as Mohan Babu, Urvashi, and Paresh Rawal. The film is produced by 2D Entertainment and co-produced by 2D Entertainment’s Rajsekar Karpoorasundarapandian and Sikhya Entertainment’s Guneet Monga.

Soorarai Pottru Movie Story

Soorarai Pottru tells the storey of Nedumaran Rajangam, a guy from Solavandhan, a tiny village in Madurai, who dreams of starting a low cost airline, and his wife Sundari, who operates a thriving bakery and helps him achieve his goals.

Suriya, who represents Maaran, gives the entire movie his all. When he meets Sundari, he finds newfound vitality and some vanity, despite the fact that he started off as a bitter and resigned dreamer. From there, we see him suffer through a series of failures, drowning in self-pity at times, wallowing in self-loathing at others, and wallowing in guilt and overall misanthropy at others. Suriya does such a good job that we don’t notice his acting as much as we care about Maaran’s plight.

Sundari is played by Aparna Balamurali, who has far less screen time than Suriya. She does nothing but make eyes, bake cakes, and dance like no one is watching.

Sundari, on the other hand, is a whole other tale. Sundari is portrayed as a whole and complex person by writers Shalini Ushadevi and Sudha Kongara. She doesn’t have a complicated past or constant companions. Despite this, we have always known her, understood her, and possibly even related to her.

She doesn’t like being told what to do. She establishes her terms and stands firm. Maaran, at one of his lowest times, scoffs at Sundari’s dreams. I suppose self-respect marriages are built of women who stand up for themselves without letting it affect their relationship or turn into a battle of her dreams versus his.

One of Soorarai Pottru’s greatest achievements is that it is a magnificent love storey. It demonstrates marriage equality in a variety of ways. Maaran appears to be at a fork in the road between his dreams and his family on several occasions. He comes to a complete halt and stares at Sundari, as if to convey that he will maintain his vow that family will always come first. Sundari, on the other hand, dismisses him with a sweep of her hand, telling him, “I’ve got this.” She has, without a doubt.

The picture succeeds in a lot more than just gender politics. There is a farmer angle, a central government perspective, a defence angle, parental sentiment, an evil capitalist angle, as well as a love tale with duets and everything, like in many of Suriya’s recent films, especially the museum piece that was Kaappaan.

Except that in the hands of Shalini Ushadevi and Kongara, all of these disparate elements come together seamlessly in service of the narrative. It’s almost unthinkable that this could be accomplished. Nonetheless, it is done, and it is done well.

“Nee oru socialite, naan oru socialist,” Maaran says to one Balaiyya, who appears to be a sort caricature of Vijay Mallya. A weaker director would have been tempted to use idli to illustrate socialism. Kongara is not one of them. She has faith in the audience and is completely focused on Maaran’s dreams.

However, I can’t help but ask why the adversaries are one-note creatures in a film that pays so much attention to the hero, his storey, the setting, and even the local language. The main adversary, Paresh Rawal, is a lifeless figure. The movie wants us to assume he, too, is vulnerable, suffering from worry, insomnia, and other ailments.

We, on the other hand, have a hard time empathising. His conversation delivery is so cardboard-like that he comes off as more of a metaphor for wicked capitalism than a real person.

Soorarai Pottru is a bit long at two and a half hours. We can’t wait for Maaran to triumph now that we’re halfway through the second half. It’s tough not to want to get moving sooner when watching on a laptop or a television screen at home.

Its treat, on the other hand, is in the anticipation. Maaran’s accomplishment is better than sweet, despite the fact that it comes so late. Maaran is a susceptible man whose eyes are swamped with tears at the sight of something that he has almost come to believe was unthinkable. He is not the champion who walks alone to the backstory of conquest and widespread music, he is a sensitive man whose eyes are flooded with crying at the glance of something he had almost come to believe was unthinkable.
